Colleen Dean is an artist based in Los Angeles

Colleen grew up in Dallas, Texas in a house filled with portrait artworks painted by her mother’s great aunt. She began drawing in middle school, but also fell in love with acting. She followed her acting passion through her 20’s, attending the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York City. She ultimately realized she was happier more as an observer and creator than as a performer. One thing that did not change, was her love of human nature and story telling. She now reminisces on photography, reinterpreting her favorite photographers iconic images that created the memories and narratives of her youth. Dramatic, provocative images have always been a favorite. Some of the photographers she reverences in her drawings and paintings include: Anton Corbijn, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Ernst Haas, and Helmet Newton.
